Christianity is not a competition nor is it a “solo” sport. We read and see how the body of Christ was united in the bible. Paul thanks certain individuals for helping him and other believers. Christ is the head of the church and we are the body. Everyone is valuable and plays a part. When you cut your finger, your mind tells you to wash your wound while your other hand helps to do all of this. After buying the groceries you depend on your legs to get you to the car. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? (See 1Cor 12:14-17)

As the body of Christ we need to look out for each other. We need to encourage one another. There are many Christian sisters who could use words of encouragement at the moment. You can decide how you want to encourage them. A healthy family rejoices to see its members growing and progressing. It’s just like on the battlefield, when your sister is tired, that shield can get pretty heavy to carry. Help them carry it. Keep singing songs of victory and redemption over them. They need to know that even if things are hard they can’t stop. They need to keep on moving. Help those who are struggling in the faith. Remind them that they are not alone. You can follow the Lord’s leading on how to help and encourage them.

Someone once slipped a note under my door, I opened it and there was an encouraging message with a verse on it. That alone helped me so much. This friend saw that I was going through something and they reminded me of God’s faithfulness. If you can take someone out for coffee, that is great! If you can’t, then think of other ways to be a cheerleader. It does not matter how you do it. You can inbox them on Facebook, you can invite them for supper or breakfast.

Always keep in mind that the aim is to point them to the horizon because at the moment they are looking down. To do this you must point them to the word of God and to prayer. Do this expecting nothing in return but just to see your sister’s spirit uplifted, see their hope rise. Please don’t be one of those bible bashing and condemning sisters. Show love, kindness and patience. Go easy on those who hesitate in the faith. Go after those who take the wrong way (Jude 22). Show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. An act of love can save a life. 50 seconds into reading this post some of you will have one or two people you feel you should check on.  Call and say hi. Do Something.  Let’s be united, don’t be too occupied to see that your sister next to you has been hit. Be your sister’s keeper!
