Is Depression A Sin?
Hello lovelies! So this question is one that I asked a leader in my church just a few days ago. I’d like to share with you what she said and give you a few scripture verses!
“Depression can be sinful but it also can not be. If you’re feeling sad or angry then no, that’s not sinful. Even Jesus felt sad (it says that Jesus Wept. That was the whole verse to, smallest one in the bible!) and Jesus felt mad (I’m not sure where but Jesus slammed tables and threw them once.) but the bible is very clear about sadness and anger. They themselves are not sinful, but what you do in them can be sinful. Psalm 4:4 Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in The Lord. Psalm 30:4-5 sing praises to The Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning. ||| however, I do believe it is sinful to say that you’re worthless or not good enough. The bible clearly states that you are a PRIZED POSSESION in his eyes. YOU. ARE. GOOD. ENOUGH! You DO have value! I’m not going to say that God made you as in yourself perfectly because we’re in a fallen world where nothing’s perfect but he made who you are perfect because we’re in his image! So no depression is not a sin, just what you do with it is what will make it sinful.
